Motorpace racing

Bantams being used for cycle pacing
Motorpace racing was glamorous but dangerous. Falls were common, largely because bicycle tires tended to burst at speed. The riders wore neither helmets nor gloves. They depended on fast reflexes, the rude health of youth, and luck. Despite having all three, Bobby Walthour collected an impressive (or dismaying) inventory of injuries over his career: 28 fractures of the right collarbone, 18 of the left, 32 broken ribs, and 60 stitches to his face and head. Once, according to family history, he was given up for dead in Paris and taken to a morgue, where he regained consciousness on the slab. link

REAL NICE D14/4S ON EBAY!

1968 BSA Bantam D14/4S, 175cc, first registered 27/05/1968. The D14/4 Sport had heavy duty front forks, larger bore exhaust down pipe and full width hubs as the earlyer and standard Bantams were smaller.

This Bantam is very original, it has original paintwork/ chrome work, the only place that is not original is on the side pannells, either ride or restore, would make an easy restoration project. The bike is not rotten, just has surface rust, the chrome work should re-chrome if restoration is prefared. The bike will need a thorough checking over before it is used on the road.

The McPhee Bantams

When, early in 1956 Jim McPhee rebuilt a rigid-frame BSA Bantam for use in his Fremantle shop neither he nor anyone else had any idea that a partnership had been formed which was to change the entire history of 125cc motorcycle racing in WA and make the name McPhee Bantam a by-word throughout the sport.

D10 Sports Bantam

Rare Sport model.
Still very complete and original. 1968 on E plate. Starts and rides. Have a good look at the photos – been stored dry for years. Ideal restoration project. Comes exactly as in photos – will need to apply for registration document. Engine and frame numbers match. Thank you!

Classic 1960s Racing Motorbike

Due to a time-waster the BSA is relisted 1960s BSA Bantam Racer. Complete little 2 stroke racer that needs a bit of TLC. Has comp head and long thin fibreglass racing tank. A great project for restoring or preparing to race.

Bsa Bantam D1 125 cafe racer

bsa bantam 125cc racer. The engine has just been rebuilt by an ex tt mechanic, it has new bearings and seals throughout , is fitted with a alpha crank and polished alpha conrod, the cases are packed out, it has a todd racing head fotted and a close ratio gearbox fitted.
the kick start has been removed but i have all the parts to refit if you want to. it doesnt need it as it is very easy to start.
The carb is a large amal monoblock and the engine runs a total loss ignition system and ive been informed by members of the bantam racing club that the battery would last over two race meetings without charge if you wondered how far you can go on a battery, i have two batterys with the bike.
The engine has hardly been run since rebuilding, only enough to set up the carb. The bike is currently fitted with a road legal exhaust that has been painted since the picture was taken.
it also comes with a straight through expansion chamber that sounds fantastic!!!
The frame is powdercoated and has adjustable height footpegs, the forks are from a velocette le.
There is a leather single seat, and a very nice race fairing fitted, the tank has a monza race cap fitted.
There is a rubber mounted rev counter.

I have had the bike dated by the bsa bantam club and have a dating certificate for it that enables you to get an age related number plate for the bike. The bike is eligible for a daytime mot. I have already fitted a horn so it meets the requirements, it just needs to be taken for an mot and then it can be registered. I also have a folde rof info on bantam tuning.

I have many spares that could be included call for info.

Lambretta VS BSA Bantam

Well a picture of Bert Flood on a Lambretta at Bathurst in 1952 has surfaced.

It shows Bert on a Genuine factory built Model B racing Lambretta in 3rd place leading Bill Morris on a BSA Bantam.

Sammy Miller Museum Two Stroke Day

Without doubt, the most bizarre bike of the day, and one which I would have given anything to have a blast on, was a V-twin Bantam! The bike has been around for a while and was built as a sprinter by using two Bantam motors welded together in tandem, driving via the rear engine's original gearbox. There were plenty of people scratching their heads and asking 'how?' -- but the big question is 'why?' I never did find out the answer but I'm so glad there are still engineers around who are eccentric enough to embark on projects like this. The bike was fired up and Sammy took no time at all to grab the chance of a quick blast around the car park. Great stuff!
