The bantam trail bronk
The Western USA BSA importer - Hap Alzina in Oakland, California had asked BSA to build this machine for the U. S. market. Though this seemed like a good idea, Yamaha introduced the YG1 80cc trailbike at the same time and Hodaka would soon introduce the Ace 90. Another factor resulting in poor sales was the BSA dealers focus on the much larger 500cc and 650cc 4-stroke machines primarily intended for street use. The result was many Trail Broncs sat in the dealer show rooms and some - like the pictured example, were never sold!

WLN 32G 1969 D14 - 4 speed

"The best model to own and invest in. Lot's of power, good brake's, black chrome for polisching.
No excuses with this motorcycle, no silly misfires. "Oh it might be the plug the buyers says.... No sir! If a bantam is stored for a long periods of time, the crankshaft seals shrink. Thats your misfire and lack of power... Full engine strip down!" ccooeecat

Shopping for tire's
Heidenau K33 is a tube tyre designed to meet the needs of performance drivers. This classic profile features centre groove which enables excellent anti-shimming performance and straight-line drivability. The closely packed tread blocks ensures optimum rolling resistance and also creates good contact with the surface for well balanced driving. Offering outstanding vehicle handling capability, the deep grooves in the design assures superb water evacuation and enhanced wet traction. The advanced tread compound of this Heidenau gives longer tread life and prevents uneven tread wear. This powerful player has stiff sidewalls which improve lateral stability and cornering grip. This perfect on-road performer is very economical and is worth the money invested.

BSA Bushman D14/4

I am from South Africa, and inherit this BSA Bushman from what I can make out. It was bought here in the 1960's by my dad in law and he only used it for 3000miles, since then it was standing in the garage most of it's life.

It's British and well engineered

Something different, it's British and well engineered. Sorry but it only shows the bike from the waistline, but it conveys the engineering of this bike. It was built by the Winwood brothers who worked in the aerospace industry. This actual bike was ridden by Ross Winwood in the 1970 SSDT. It has an aluminium plate frame, screwed/bolted together in places and a billet turned headstock. 175cc BSA Bantam power plant with aluminium billet triple clamps (yolks) and I think either MP or REH front forks.
Classic Motorcycle Trails

D7 Frame with brace.
BSA C15 Yokes and Forks (they fit streight in).
Widened S-ARM or fit cub S-ARM, (they fit streight in).
Longer rear shocks.
Sump sheild.
Cub hubs.
Small tank & seat.
Sammy Miller Footrests & Chain tensioner.
D7 engine with d10 175cc barrel (different ports) crank stuffers disk type to up the crank case compression, easy to make & fit if you have the motor in bits.
Open up and polish all barrel ports, make sure not to go too much because of piston ring damage.
Skim the head to up the compression ratio (not too much for trials use).
Amal Concentric carb & longer induction neck.
Hi-line exhaust.
Change sprockets for low gears, 12 tooth final drive sprocket and a 66 tooth rear sprocket.
For motorX they used to remove the flywheel & use a battery, up the compresion ratio (Todd head), Todd horse shoe crank stuffers, disc crank stuffers, piston stuffer, and the list goes on!
Todd was the Bantam tuning guru.

Stan 'Tommy' Tucker

Bsa was the largest producer of motorcycles in the world and it was the Bantam that was to prove the most enduring and arguably the most popular British bike of all time. Small but perfectly formed, more than 500,000 Bantams were produced and sold by Bsa from 1948 until 1971 in a wide variety of configurations (road, trials and competition use). In its familiar and somewhat radical white and orange colour scheme, the Bushman variety offered a higher top gear ratio than the others and was particularly popular in rural New Zealand with its incredibly simple mechanics and light geometry. The Bantam holds a special place in New Zealand's motorcycle history. From its war effort origins to its being the basis of many backyard performance modifications for the grass tracks of the '50s and '60s, it was the Bantam that gave meaning to the word 'utilitarian' - inexpensive, simple and long-lasting. Even better, in amongst the big singles there was a growing number of riders who preferred the light simplicity of the Bantam - Stan 'Tommy' Tucker was one of them. Easily modified, the Bantam made a surprisingly competitive ride in the right hands and would quite often give the big singles a run for their money on tight courses. With its genuine patina and a particularly charming hand-painted 'Bushman' decal, this bike was acquired by Stan Tucker from one of his early apprentices in exchange for one of Stan's aging British singles and is accompanied by the original manual and ownership papers.

My First road legal bike
My first road legal bike. Bought for the sum of £25 - insured for the sum of £41. It started off as a more or less standard D14/4S - the "S" standing for sport. With a big bore high level exhaust, heavy front forks, full width hubs, humped seat and fly screen, this was BSAs attempt to lure the youth of the day. It fell flat on its face. I did all manner of unspeakable things to this bike. If you look closely at the above picture you can see a sidecar mounting lug on the front frame down tube. Yes - I ran a Bantam outfit. Sadly all my photographs of this magnificent machine were stolen, well the negatives were. Following the outfit was the performance Bantam. This saw a Wal Phillips fuel injector, padded flywheels, stuffed crankcases and expansion chamber exhaust. It went fairly well. Fuel economy dropped as low as 16 mpg, and if you missed a gear then the con rod would exit through the crankcase. All good fun

Superb Pre 65 Trials Bantam 185cc
Hi,Here we have a pre 65 BSA Bantam 185 Trials bike.Engine is totally rebuilt by an ex factory BSA man,[Pete Kirby i believe] and has never been ridden in anger yet.
It has:
- A Witton alloy barrel with a Suzuki 185cc piston fitted,
- Todd high finned head,
- D14 4 speed bottom end with trials gears.
- D7 cases,
- External clutch mechanism,
- Amal carb,
- High rise exhaust with a very fancy and well made alloy 2 box exhaust system,
- Alloy side panel which are nicely made,
- Whitlock power coated bantam copy frame with side stand and alloy bash plate and is in great condition,
- New betor rear shocks,
- TY forks and tank[paint on tank could be better, but is ok],
- New mitchelin tyre on nearly new steel rims,
- New renthal bars and levers.
In all a very nice well restored bike, ideal for pre 65 trials.
To build these pre 65 bikes it is not cheap to do,
so this is a good base to do more if you wish,
but would be very competitive as is.
The bike is not road registered, but that could be fairly easily done.
The bike is sold as you see it,you can view if you would like,
but please note you are bidding to buy not tyre kick.
Reason for sale i am building a house,so have got to part with some toys! I reserve the right to withdraw it at any time as i have it adverised elsewhere.Cash on collection only.Any questions call me on 07802479779.Mike.

Devon Dipper Run - 2008

Just found this nice article about a moped cruise with some bantams. Looks like the bantams were in a bad mood ...
"Best thing to do is sell the Bantams and buy a moped." & "the trailer started to look like a bantam graveyard by now" ... hmm :-D read more on The buzzing club

Don't you love the white shoes?!
Sometime's i wonder who would have driven a BSA Bantam Supreme.
Attached is a photograph of my grandmother Claire, and her brother Jack. I never met my grandmother, and so know her only through family stories and photographs. It seems to me that she looks gorgeous (and effortlessly glamorous) in every photograph, but this is one of my favorites.Don't you love the white shoes?! Thanks to the Sartorialist.

How many miles on a Bantam - 1984
The Norfolk branch of the BSAOC was founded over 20 years ago with several original members still attending & organising events. Our membership has grown steadily over the past few months with the increasing interest in Classic Motorcycles in general. Many of the models produced by BSA over the years are owned by our members and examples from the humble Bantam to the prestigious Gold Star can be seen at the events attended over the Norfolk & Suffolk area, during the summer months.
